2005 End
of Year Annual Report
![]()
English Schools
2005 Birmingham July 2005
The English Schools
Championships is the largest schools age championships in the world.
Each county has a quota of athletes it can enter, and there is an
entry standard for each event, which is roughly equivalent to AAA
Grade 1. It is the pinicle of most young peoples athletics. This year
Olympians were represented by Sian Davis (High Jump), Toby Griffiths
(800m), Gemma Weetman (Long Jump) & Charlotte Roberts (300mH).
All except for Toby had been before.
Toby went to his first
English Schools full of hope & came away with a Bronze medal,
lowering his PB from 2:11.5 last year to 2:01.62 in the final. Almost
a 10 seconds reduction, and a new U15's club record.
Gemma Weetman also came
away with a Bronze medal. Despite being in the junior year of her age
group, she beat all except the two girls on National Athletics
funding. She also increased her PB & the club record to 5m87

Olympians
win the 2004 Shropshire Sportshall
League Trophy
now for the 12th successive year
Olympians
have retained the overall Shropshire Sportshall trophy for the 12th
consecutive year. The final league meeting of four held at various
venues around the county, was at the Marches Sports Hall in Oswestry
on Sunday 22nd Feb 2004.
What a great year! 3 Members represented their Country in Internationals, 5 Members went to English Schools T & F finals, 2 went to ESAA Combined Events finals, 17 New Club Records & we won the Shropshire Sportshall league for a record 11th consecutive time. All this with less that 100 junior members. Amazing! Well done |

The
BBC Midlands Sports Unsung Hero award 2003,
was won our own Club President Doug Morris (pictured on the left)
both for his charity work & the tireless work he does organising
races in Shropshire & North Wales.
Doug organises more
than a dozen senior races every year, as well as arranging the
courses for junior race meetings in the area. It
was obvious
that he was
very surprised to receive
the award at the Midlands Sports Awards Presentation evening, which
was televised from The Belfry. Doug's award qualified him to go
forward to the National BBC Sports Personallity of the year awards,
where he met many of the top names in sport today. |

Shropshire
Young Athletes Cross Country League (SYA XC L)
Well done to all
those who took part. Both U11's & the U13 Boys teams all did
well, as did the individuals who ran in the other age groups.
Unfortunately the U13 Girls & both the U15s suffered from lack of
numbers. Lets hope more of their team mates will support them in the
next meeting at home in Oswestry on Sunday October 26th. |

The first report of the 2003/2004 Cross
Country Season
The first cross country of the season. I hope the
weather is as good at all the rest of the events this season. Allison
Lavender won the U15 girls
competition! She went straight to the front and stayed on her feet
whilst other girls fell over in streams etc. A fantastic result. |

In the first year of the new UK:A National Young Athletes League, Oswestry Olympians have finished the season achieving promotion. Next year we will face much stiffer competition, which should give our athletes the incentive, challenge and that little extra edge to help them improve their performances. August 2003 |
