Wenlock Olympic mascots presentation
Oswestry athletes were recently invited to Much Wenlock to attend the unveiling of the 2012 Olympic Games mascots. As patron of the Wenlock Olympians society, Jonathan Edwards, the world record holder and Olympic gold medallist for triple jump, spent time talking to Natalie Bathers, Cameron Dixon and Georgia Dixon about their events and their aspirations for the future. He shared stories of his own athletics career and presented all the young people with badges and limited editions of the story of the mascots, written by Michael Morpurgo.--------------------------------------------
Shropshire
Cross Country Championships
The
2009 County Cross Country Championships were held at Lilleshall and,
after heavy rain, the conditions of the course were boggy and heavy
underfoot. Oswestry Olympians teams were small due to illness and
injury but four athletes won individual medals and several were
selected to represent Shropshire at the UK Inter-counties
Championships to be held in Birmingham in March. Top performance of
the day was by Charlie Mooney who had just become eligible to compete
in the U13 age group after celebrating his 11th birthday recently. He
stepped up to the start line knowing that some of the boys were up to
two years older and that the course was double the distance he was
used to. Far from being overawed, Charlie stuck with the leading
group and finished a magnificent 8th out of a field of 37 runners.
His team mates James Morris and Owen Line came 3rd and 32nd
respectively to earn themselves a bronze team medal.
There was also a medal for Daisy Tickner who continued her fantastic
cross country form in the league to place 2nd in the U15 Girls race,
and a silver medal for Ella Walker in the U17 Women's age group.

groups and won two of the team competitions on the day. There were
athletes missing in the Under 15 and 17 age groups and this resulted
in points being dropped in the overall club competition. Joe
Morris was the only individual winner but there were excellent debut
performances by Megan Line, Courtney Evans, Robert Pritchard and

2009/10 - 1/4
The first Sportshall
competition of the season took place at Bridgnorth Leisure Centre and
Oswestry won on the day by half a point. The Under 11 Boys only
featured two athletes due to the unavailability of several members
involved in other sports fixtures, but their points were vital to the
success of the club. Mitchell Brown and Savannah Nicoll-Davies, both
still only nine years old made their debuts for Olympians. The Under
13 Girls team continued their dominance of their age group by
finishing first and second in every event and beating their
